Before the Wedding

The best wedding photographs often begin months before the wedding.

A Miami engagement session is more than an opportunity to create beautiful photographs. It gives you time to become comfortable together in front of the camera, understand how we work and enjoy an experience designed entirely around the two of you.

Feel comfortable before the wedding day

Most couples are not used to being photographed professionally. During the session, you discover how naturally you move together, while we learn the gestures, expressions and interactions that feel most authentic to you.

By the time the wedding arrives, the camera already feels familiar. There is less uncertainty, less pressure and far more space for genuine moments to unfold.

Choose the location, light and pace

Unlike a wedding timeline, an engagement photography session can be planned around the best light and the place that feels most meaningful to you.

Whether you imagine sunset photographs on Miami Beach, tropical scenery in Key Biscayne or a quiet coastal session in the Florida Keys, there are no guests waiting and no celebration pulling you away.

Create photographs you will actually use

Your engagement photographs can become part of your wedding story long before the ceremony begins. Couples often use them for save the dates, wedding websites, welcome signs, guest books and printed details.

They also become something more personal: relaxed portraits of this chapter of your life, created without the schedule and expectations of the wedding day.

Every engagement session is shaped around the couple rather than a fixed collection of poses. We offer gentle direction, create space for movement and photograph the small interactions that already exist between you.

Where to Shoot

The Miami engagement locations we know by heart.

Miami offers far more than one kind of backdrop. From the pastel skies of South Pointe and the quiet shoreline of North Beach to tropical gardens, historic architecture and the turquoise water of the Florida Keys, every location creates a different atmosphere.

The best setting for your engagement photographs depends on the light, the season, the crowds and how you want the session to feel.

Sunset engagement photography at North Beach in Miami

North Beach · Miami

A quieter beach with an open horizon

North Beach feels more spacious and less photographed than the busiest areas of South Beach. Its wider shoreline and uninterrupted ocean views make it ideal for natural movement, barefoot portraits and photographs beneath Miami’s golden evening light.

Best for couples who want a relaxed beach session with fewer architectural elements and more open space.

Engagement session near the lighthouse in Key Biscayne Miami

Key Biscayne · Miami

Tropical scenery and the Cape Florida lighthouse

Key Biscayne combines ocean views, palms, greenery and one of Miami’s most recognizable coastal landmarks. The lighthouse creates a strong architectural background without losing the relaxed feeling of a beach engagement session.

Sessions here need to begin earlier because park access and closing times can affect how close we can photograph to sunset.

Coconut Grove · Miami

Tropical greenery and old-Florida character

Coconut Grove is an excellent alternative for couples who want engagement photos in Miami without spending the entire session on the beach. Its shaded streets, mature trees, marina views and historic atmosphere create a softer and more intimate setting.

A strong choice during warmer months, when shade and tropical greenery can offer more flexibility than an open shoreline.

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens · Miami

European architecture and formal gardens

Vizcaya offers stone staircases, fountains, symmetry and formal gardens that feel completely different from Miami’s beaches. It works especially well for couples drawn to elegant fashion, structured compositions and a refined editorial look.

Professional photography may require advance coordination, admission or a permit. Let us know early when this is your preferred location.

Islamorada · Florida Keys

Turquoise water and a slower rhythm in the Florida Keys

Islamorada creates an engagement photography experience that feels removed from the energy of Miami. The drive south leads to quieter coastal scenery, tropical vegetation, private venues and the distinctive blue-green water of the Florida Keys.

Because of the travel time and the variety of possible settings, we recommend treating an Islamorada engagement session as a longer experience rather than trying to fit it into a rushed hour.

Every Miami engagement location behaves differently depending on the season, tide, weather, access and time of day.

Tell us what kind of scenery you imagine and we will recommend the location and starting time that will create the strongest photographs.

What to Expect

Ninety minutes, no rush and no forced posing.

Your Miami engagement session is planned around good light, natural movement and enough time for the experience to feel relaxed. We guide you throughout the session, but nothing is built around a fixed list of poses.

We begin with simple movement and conversation rather than asking you to perform for the camera. As the session unfolds, the photographs become more personal because you stop thinking about where to place your hands and start responding naturally to each other.

Every session is slightly different, but the process is intentionally simple.

Duration

Around ninety minutes

Most engagement sessions last approximately ninety minutes. This gives us enough time to settle into the experience, explore the location and photograph a range of quiet, playful and editorial moments without rushing.

Timing

Planned around the best light

Beach sessions are usually scheduled during the final hours before sunset. The exact starting time depends on the season, location, access, weather and how quickly the light changes.

Direction

Guidance without rigid poses

We give you clear direction whenever you need it, but the goal is never to make every couple look the same. We create situations that invite movement, conversation and genuine reactions.

Locations

One location, or two when it makes sense

One well-chosen location is often enough to create a varied gallery. When two nearby settings work naturally together, we can include both without losing the best light to driving or parking.

Outfits

Up to two looks

Most couples bring one relaxed outfit and one more elevated look. A second outfit works best when there is a practical place to change and when it does not interrupt the strongest part of the sunset.

Delivery

A private online gallery

Your edited photographs are delivered through a private online gallery, usually within two weeks. From there, you can download, share and select images for save the dates, wedding websites, prints or albums.

You do not need to know how to pose. You only need to arrive ready to spend time together.

What to wear

What to Wear

The question every couple asks.

What you wear should feel like an elevated version of yourselves. The goal is not to dress identically or follow a rigid formula, but to choose clothing that moves naturally, works with Miami’s light and keeps the focus on your connection.

Begin with movement

Choose fabrics that respond to the breeze.

Flowing fabrics photograph beautifully because movement gives an image energy. Dresses, skirts, relaxed linen and lightweight layers work especially well for engagement photos on Miami Beach, Key Biscayne and the Florida Keys.

Very stiff clothing can limit movement and sometimes feel more formal than the location requires. The best pieces allow you to walk, sit, turn and interact without constantly adjusting them.

Clothing should support the photograph, not become the photograph.

Colour palette

Let Miami’s light do the talking.

Cream, ivory, sand, stone, soft blue, muted green and warm neutral tones work beautifully against the ocean, tropical greenery and Miami’s pastel skies.

You do not need to wear the same colour. Instead, choose tones that belong to the same visual family and feel balanced when placed beside each other.

Cream Sand Soft blue Sage Stone

Keep it timeless

Avoid anything that competes with your faces.

Large logos, fluorescent colours and very busy prints tend to pull attention away from the couple. They can also date the photographs more quickly than solid colours and subtle textures.

Small patterns can work, but pairing two strong prints usually creates unnecessary visual noise. When one person wears a pattern, the other outfit should normally remain simpler.

  • Large logos or visible branding
  • Two competing patterns
  • Neon colours near the face
  • Uncomfortable shoes for walking
  • Clothing that needs constant adjustment

Miami weather

Dress for heat, humidity, wind and sand.

Miami can remain warm even close to sunset. Breathable fabrics such as linen, cotton, silk blends and lightweight tailoring are usually more comfortable than heavy layers.

For beach engagement photos, bring footwear that is easy to remove. Barefoot photographs often feel more natural once we reach the sand, but comfortable shoes are useful while walking between areas.

A small towel, water, blotting paper and a brush can be useful during humid or windy sessions.

Two outfit approach

Bring one look that feels familiar and one that feels special.

A two-outfit engagement session creates variety without changing the mood of the entire experience. We normally recommend beginning with the more relaxed look and saving the elevated outfit for the softer final light.

The first outfit should feel unmistakably like you. The second can be more editorial: a flowing dress, tailored suit, statement silhouette or something you would not usually wear on an ordinary evening.

Look one

Relaxed and personal

Linen, knitwear, a soft dress, open collar or pieces you already feel confident wearing.

Look two

Elevated and editorial

Tailoring, flowing fabrics and a stronger silhouette for the final part of the session.

Planning Your Session

When should you book your Miami engagement session?

Most couples reserve their engagement photography several months before the wedding. The ideal date depends on how you plan to use the photographs, whether you are travelling to Miami and the kind of weather and light you prefer.

Our Recommendation

Book the session between six and nine months before your wedding.

This timeframe gives you enough flexibility to choose a weekday, coordinate outfits and avoid planning the session during the busiest final weeks before the wedding.

It also allows time for editing, gallery delivery and using the photographs across your wedding website, invitations, guest book or printed stationery.

Save the Dates

Reserve early when the photographs are part of your stationery.

When you want to use your engagement photographs for save the dates, we recommend scheduling the session at least eight to ten months before the wedding.

This leaves enough time to receive the finished gallery, select your favorite image and complete the design and mailing process without unnecessary pressure.

Destination Couples

Visiting Miami? Build the session around your travel dates.

Many of our couples live outside Florida and plan their engagement session during a trip to Miami, a venue visit or a weekend with family.

When travel dates are fixed, contact us as early as possible. We can recommend the location and time that work best within your itinerary and keep an alternative plan in mind if the weather changes.

Wedding Season

Weekday sessions offer more flexibility.

Miami’s busiest wedding months can fill quickly, particularly between late autumn and spring. Weekend availability may be limited because those dates are often reserved for weddings.

A weekday engagement session usually offers more date options, quieter locations and fewer people along the beach, parks and waterfront areas.

Miami by Season

There is no single perfect month—only a season that fits your plans.

Miami can be photographed throughout the year, but temperature, humidity, sunset time and the likelihood of afternoon rain change noticeably between seasons.

November — April

Cooler and generally more comfortable

These months usually offer milder temperatures and lower humidity, making them especially comfortable for formal clothing, tailored looks and longer sessions.

This is also a popular period for weddings and visitors, so reserving the date early is helpful.

May — October

Warmer evenings and tropical weather

Summer and early autumn bring warmer temperatures, higher humidity and a greater possibility of short afternoon storms.

The light can still be beautiful, but breathable clothing, flexible planning and a weather-aware approach become more important.

Sunset & Weather

We choose the starting time after the location and date are confirmed.

Sunset changes throughout the year, and some locations lose direct light earlier because of trees, buildings, park hours or their position along the coast.

For that reason, we do not use one fixed starting time for every engagement session. Once the location and date are confirmed, we recommend the precise time based on the expected light.

We normally review the forecast during the days before the session. Miami weather can change quickly, so the final decision is rarely made from a forecast viewed too far in advance.

What if it rains?

We keep the plan flexible until the weather becomes clear.

A chance of rain does not always mean the session needs to be moved. In South Florida, a brief storm can pass quickly and leave soft, dramatic light behind it.

When conditions are genuinely unsuitable or unsafe, we coordinate a new date based on availability. For couples travelling to Miami, we recommend leaving some flexibility within the itinerary whenever possible.
